Boston is an extremely significant city in the history of the United States. It’s the state capital of Massachusetts and a very popular tourist destination. It is a tremendously historical city with many attractions, museums and a great energy. Cambridge, connected to Boston by mass transit is also an interesting place as the home of Harvard, MIT and many other appealing attractions.

Museums

Boston houses a plethora of fascinating museums. Due to its rich history and culture there are many museums to choose from.

Learn and experience the night when America forefathers decided to oppose British rule at the Boston Tea Party Ships and Museum. Turn back time through interactive displays depicting the passion and determination felt in Boston during the early stages of the American Revolution.

For a change of pace, check out the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, home to an extraordinary art collection. Designed after a Venetian-style-palace with galleries surrounding a blooming interior courtyard, the museums provides a captivating atmosphere for art viewing. Built to be a work of art itself, the building’s galleries include art from some of the most world renowned artists such as Michelangelo and Botticelli.

Art lovers will also enjoy the Institute of Contemporary Art, home to works by Picasso, Warhol and O’Keefe. The museum continues to present stunning contemporary programs and exhibits that challenge traditional ideas of art and contemporary art work.

Take a walking tour of the Black Heritage Trail at the Museum of African American History and learn through exhibits about the history of African Americans during colonial times.

Historic Things to See in Boston

The Bunker Hill Monument at Breed’s Hill commemorates the first key confrontation of the American Revolution. It was important for American colonists to occupy this high ground to maintain an advantage over the British Army. Though the colonists ended up retreating in the clash, they were strong and it gave them the resolve to continue fighting the British. This monument is a testament to that first important battle. Climb the close-to 300 stairs to the top of the monument and experience an amazing view of the surrounding areas.

Visit the Old State House for another informative crash course on the American Revolution. Learn about the buildings function during revolutionary times and enjoy collections of artifacts of The Bostonian Society.

It’s important to visit Beacon Hill the territory where Boston was born. The neighborhood was given its name due to a beacon being placed at the highest point of the city to warn the citizens of hostile ships. It is now the home of the New State House, the Massachusetts State House which houses the state government.

Parks and Gardens in Boston

Boston is known for the beauty of its green space. The city is full of parks or an Emerald Necklace as showcased by all the green space on maps of Boston.

The Public Garden is one of the most popular parks in the city. It was the country’s first botanical garden and has spectacular blooms for most of the year.

Arnold Arboretum, designed to complete the Emerald Necklace, is one of the oldest parks in the country. This exquisite park contains over 15,000 trees, shrubs and vines from across the globe. The park is especially known for its assortment of lilacs and, in the spring can be overwhelmed with the dazzling scents of the flowers. The park has been declared a Historic Landmark.

Franklin Park is the final part of the Emerald Necklace. Most of the park is scenic but contains picnic zones, athletic areas, an 18-hole golf course and the Franklin Park Zoo. Home to many exotic animals, it is the second biggest zoo in New England and great for a fun family outing.
